15/05/2024

On May 15, 2024, members of the Women in Wine Industry (WIWI) Association participated in a theoretical and practical training in viticulture, organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The training was led by Julio Pietro Diaz, FAO’s international consultant and a seasoned viticulture engineer with extensive experience in vineyard management in Spain and beyond.

Key topics included:

Integrated pest and disease management

Organic and regenerative viticulture practices

Green vine operations

The practical session focused on green vine techniques and the identification and monitoring of vineyard pests and diseases. Held in an interactive format, the training provided participants with the opportunity to ask direct, hands-on questions and receive expert guidance.

Dr. Natalia Dinello, professor at the University of Washington, attended the session as Guest of Honour, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in sustainable agriculture.

The event was generously hosted by Demis Winery, a family-owned estate committed to supporting educational and community initiatives in Georgian viticulture.
