Women in the Wine Sector - The German Embassy in Tbilisi Publishes an Article

05/07/2023
Traditionally, winemakers in Georgia are mostly men. Despite this, women are also distinguished by their winemaking and deserve to have their wine showcased. This is precisely why, since 2018, GIZ has been supporting women in the wine sector.
Women in Wine Industry (WIWI) unites 40 women winemakers. GIZ supports the association in developing appropriate structures and services, promoting the wine of Georgian women winemakers. It also takes care of strengthening the capabilities of its members through training and improving international connections.
In May 2023, within the framework of this cooperation, women winemakers had the opportunity to participate in two exhibitions: the New Wine Festival in Tbilisi and the Georgian Wine Exhibition in London. Participation in London exhibitions and events allowed women winemakers to present their wine to foreign importers/buyers, wine journalists, bars/restaurants, and diversify the market. The WIWI initiative and the wines produced by women have aroused particular interest from visitors and professionals.
